Water sports The area of Lake Zegrze offers numerous possibilities to practise water sports, such as sailing, canoeing, windsurfing – or ice sailing in winter. There are many equipment rentals around the lake where you can hire boats, canoes, yachts and pedalos.
Hike or cycle The best place to hike or cycle is the area of the Kampinos Forest, where there are over 300 km of marked trails for hikers and 200 for cyclists. The best starting points are Dziekanow Lesny, Truskaw, Zaborow, Leszno, Izabelin, Laski and Brochow.
Ride on horseback There are opportunities to saddle up a horse and go riding, particularly around Lomianki, Stare Babice, Truskaw, and in the area of Lake Zegrze (Rynia and Lajski).
Spot wild animals North of Lake Zegrze is the Nadbuzanski Landscape Park (or The Bug River Valley Landscape Park). Both areas offer good conditions to observe wild birds, including great snipes, nutcrackers, wild geese, ducks, lapwings, swans, ruffs, redshanks, sandpipers and others. Moose, lynx, wild boar, beavers, and otter can be found if one is careful in the Kampinos Forest.
Sightsee Among places that are exceptionally worthy of attention are the former home of Frederic Chopin in Zelazowa Wola, the romantic park in Arkadia, a palace in Nieborow and the old town of Pultusk. Wandering around the Kampinos Forest, you can come across numerous cemeteries of soldiers that fell during the September Campaign 1939, making up about 15% of the death toll of Polish troops during that period.
Discover the original folklore of Lowicz Land No wonder Lowicz is famed for its folk arts and crafts – the meticulously cut decorations from paper, rainbow-coloured costumes and patterned sewing are astonishing. The best way to learn more about it is to visit either the ethnographic park in Maurzyce or Sromow.
CHILDREN
A trip by water tram from Warsaw to Pilawa or by narrow-gauge train from Sochaczew to Wilcze Tulowskie are great attractions for children. The open-air museums of Lowicz Land are worth recommendation, too, for working off that excess energy.
