Sightsee Important sights to add to your itinerary include the Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle in Darlowo, the Basilica Church in Kolobrzeg, Wedlow Castle in Swidwin as well as St Mary’s Church in Slawno. Also, pay a visit to the town of Trzebiatow to see its lovely town square encircled by old tenement houses, and a sgraffito design from 1639 showing an elephant and elephant driver. It is worth making a trip to Trzesacz where you can wander around the ruins of a 15th century church.
Swim and sunbathe If you seek some time in the sun and sea, a stay in this sandy region will not disappoint. The most popular summer resorts are Darlowo, Darlowko, Kolobrzeg and Mielno.
Fish Numerous lakes and rivers in the region offer superb fishing opportunities. Popular areas for anglers are the lakes Jamno and Bukowo.
Play golf The area has established itself as a golfing centre with courses in Binowo, Kolczewo and Lukecin. Beginners can learn the swings and the putts, and perhaps participate in a golf competition.
Cycle There are many bike trails throughout the region, with over 480 km to explore.
Kayak and windsurf Try paddling in a kayak down the rivers Gwda, Pilawa, Mysla, Plonia, and more. There are also ideal opportunities to practise windsurfing.
Sail With as many as 1649 lakes, Western Pomerania is perfect for sailing. Cruises on the Szczecin and Kamien Lagoons as well as on the sea are hugely popular. The largest sailing school in Poland is located in Trzebiez, and among the best lakes for sailing are Resko, Miedwie, Bukowo, Drawsko and Wielimie.
Improve your health In their treatments, spa resorts like Kolobrzeg, Kamien Pomorski, Polczyn Zdroj and Dziwnowek make use of their natural therapeutic conditions (climate, brine and therapeutic muds). One has a choice of many advanced treatment facilities, while the general health can be improved by sun and sea bathing as well as inhaling the marine air while on the beach.
Ride on horseback If you want to get in the saddle, then head to Lobez, where you will find a herd of stallions, or to stables in Swierzno and Nowielice, just a few kilometres from the coast. There are indoor riding arenas to suit riding in all weathers or you can visit one of the private stables.
Watch birds Thanks to its unpolluted environment, Western Pomerania is home to a staggering 230 of the country’s 280 species of birds. Among the most unique residents of the region is the white-tailed eagle.
Visit the Wolinski National Park There are a number of hiking trails in the Wolinski National Park, leading to the most scenic viewpoints, as well as a kayaking trail. The Park has an interesting museum, but the greatest attraction has to be the European bison reserve.

Children will enjoy a visit to the European bison reserve in the Wolinski National Park. Other great adventures of the area are a ride on the Niechorze-Gryfice narrow-gauge train or a visit to Sierakowo Slawienskie, a small village known as the Hobbits Village and inspired by Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.
