arrowObserve waterfowl
The best way to observe water birds is to follow one of the marked trails (such as Perehod, Dab Dominik or Splawy), where you can learn about the birds. Spotters should plan their trip in spring or autumn to see the annual migrations.

arrowVisit Marian Sanctuary
In Koden is the Catholic church of St Anne with its miraculous icon of St Mary. This mediaeval painting is said to have been stolen from Rome in the 17th century by Duke Mikolaj Sapieha, who built a church on this site. The duke’s deed was later forgiven by the pope, and St Mary of Koden was crowned Queen of Poland. Koden has also a beautiful herb garden and Calvary.

arrowExplore the religious diversity of the region
Especially worth a visit is Wlodawa, which before World War II was a town inhabited mainly by Jews (60%), as well as people of the Orthodox Christian and Catholic faiths. Now all that remains are two synagogues and two Jewish cemeteries from the 18th and 19th centuries, an interesting Orthodox Christian church and the beautiful Baroque Catholic church of St Louis. The best time to visit is during the Festival of Three Cultures, held annually in September.

arrowVisit an Orthodox monastery
If you want to learn more about the religious diversity of the region, visit Jableczna, a small village in the north of the Polesie area. This is an interesting monastery complex, with a church, belfry and cemetery that draws both pilgrims and tourists, especially at the end of June. According to legend, the monastery was established on the site of a 15th century icon of St Onuphrius, brought here by the waves of the Bug River.

arrowExplore Polesie National Park
There are many hiking and cycling trails within the park’s borders; however, the most recommendable are the marked routes through the most interesting parts of the area, with plenty of informative signs. These hiking trails have wooden footbridges to cross the marshy areas and towers to help you observe the wildlife.

children ДЕТИ
There is a special marked path for children, called “Zolwik” (small turtle), which shows how the turtles live and were re-established in the park. Another interesting place for children is the “Splawy” path, where you can observe carnivorous sundew and many other plants and animals.
