Sightsee No holiday in Kashubia would be complete without some sightseeing. In the town of Kartuzy you should visit the Kashubian Museum and the 15th century Gothic church. A huge attraction is the Kashubian Ethnographic Park in Wdzydze Kiszewskie, which is a heritage park displaying traditional wooden houses, windmills, stables and a church. Other notable points of interest in the region include the open air Railway Museum in Koscierzyna with its collection of trains and other related artefacts giving an overview of the development of the local railway, the renowned pilgrimage site of Wejherowska Calvary in Wejcherowo, and finally the Museum of Kashubian Pottery of the Necel Family in Chmielno.
Sunbathe and swim in the lakes If you are not the adventurous type and simply want a relaxing holiday, the region’s natural beaches make for great swimming and sunbathing.
CHILDREN
Apart from canoeing, hiking or cycling, we recommend a trip to the summit of Wiezyca to enjoy the panorama. If you are lucky, you could take part in one of the local festivals: Picking Strawberries in Kartuzy or Kite Beheading (this traditional ceremony takes place on St. John’s Night – June 23-24). The bird is quite rare; so Kashubians make a model of the kite, accuse it of all their misfortunes and cut of its head.
