Sail The best conditions for sailing can be found on the 27 km long Jeziorak Lake, but there are over 40 smaller ones to choose from too. The big advantage is that, except during the peak summer season and the warmer weekends of the spring and autumn, it can be quite a secluded area. Yachts and boats can be hired in Ilawa.
Canoe The picturesque Drweca River is a great place to practise canoeing. Experienced kayakers can try the trail along the Elblag Canal to the Vistula Lagoon.
Cycle or hike Some 100 km of trails await cyclists and hikers in the Ilawa Lake region, with Ilawa town forming the best starting point to explore the region.
Ride on horseback The many horse studs combined with a choice of picturesque paths through the woods mean excellent conditions to try your hand, or seat, at horse riding. There is also an opportunity to have a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
Angle Thanks to the clean water and the few tourists, many lakes and rivers are full of fish. If you are lucky, you can find zander, pike, eel, tench, carp bream or even lamprey.
Have a cruise along Elblag Canal Ostroda harbour is the base for cruises to Milomlyn, Maldyty, Buczyniec and on to Elblag. During this wonderful trip you can observe the many unusual engineering feats that form an essential part of this 19th century canal, such as the track sections used to transport whole ships across the dry land.
Sightsee If you have enough of being close to nature, visit the museum of Herder in Morag, where this philosopher was born. In Baloszyce you can see a beautiful palace, now a hotel, while in Szymbark there are the ruins of a Teutonic castle.
DĚTI
A cruise along Elblag Canal can be a great fun for children, especially if you head for Buczyniec where the boats cover a section of their journey overland.
