arrowCanoe
There are several beautiful water trails, such as the water trails down the Sapina, the Elk and the Czarna Struga Rivers.

arrowHike
The best areas to hike in are the Borecka Forest, but you really need to be fit to do most routes since the forest spreads across hills, some of them of considerable height. Enthusiasts should hike to the three reserves of Borki, Mazury and Lipowy Jar - which are the most interesting areas in the forest. In addition, in the region of Elk you can find several trails, such as the Trail of Kajka, Tartar Trail and many others, leading to interesting nooks of Masuria.

arrowCycle
You can choose among many trails for bikers of every level and age. There is a route around Lake Goldapiwo, through Borecka Forest or around Olecko.

arrowHave a narrow-gauge train trip
Elk Narrow Gauge railway, built in the early 20th century, is one of the biggest attractions here. It is 48 km long, and connects Elk with Turowo.

arrowSwim and rest on the lake
The biggest lakes of the area are Lasmiady, Selmet Wielki, Goldapiwo, Szostak and Druglin, but there are also a plenty of smaller and equally attractive ones.

arrowRide on horseback
There are chances to try out horse riding in Czarnkowka, Kruklin and Jeziorowskie.

arrowVisit mysterious sights
The best-known historical sight of the region is the pyramid of Rapa, built in 1811 by the local aristocratic Fahrenheid family as their family vault. In the early 19th century the antique style was fashionable, and this is why the construction has the shape of a pyramid (like an Egyptian one). A legend says that due to some magical features of the pyramid, the bodies inside it are preserved as if they were mummified.

arrowObserve wild animals
If you are lucky, you may spot a European bison, reintroduced in Borecka Forest in the mid 20th century. Now they live there freely, but several bison can be seen in Wolisko village, where they live in a corral and can be observed by tourists from a special platform. If you want to explore the wildest areas of Borecka Forest, you must visit Borki Reserve.

arrowDrop into local towns
The most interesting old towns are Rajgrod with its triangular market square, and Grajewo to the south of Elk. Both are not only interesting in themselves, but also form a good starting point to explore the Biebrza National Park.

children CHILDREN
The most recommendable attraction for children is a trip on the narrow-gauge railway, starting in Elk. Children will enjoy observing the bison in the Borecka Forest as well. The trails around Stare Juchy are well marked and suitable for families with kids.
