Kayak If you are interested in kayaking, the Cardinal Karol Wojtyla trail leading down the Drawa River should be your first choice. The trail is so named because Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, later Pope John Paul II, kayaked along the river several times. Another trail, called the “Petla Szczecinecka” (61 km long), is recommended only for experienced kayakers, while all others can try its less demanding version (48 km long). Kayaking journeys usually start on Lake Drawsko, in Stare Drawsko or in Czaplinek.
Watch birds Bird-watchers will find the Drawskie Lake District a haven with its remarkable diversity of birds to observe. The most prominent of these are water ouzel, golden eagle, kingfisher, osprey, wagtail, eagle owl and merganser.

Sightsee In Szczecinek, you should visit a castle of the Dukes of Pomerania, dating from the 14th century, the eclectic town hall built in 1852, the Gothic tower of the 16th century St. Nicolas church, as well as the edifice that in the 19th century housed a middle school. Czaplinek has a Holy Trinity church dating from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, which boasts a splendid baroque canopy altar; the Romanesque church of the Holy Cross from 1830; and a wooden bell tower with a bell cast in 1730. While in Stare Drawsko, do not omit the remnants of a castle raised around the year 1360 nor the neo-Gothic church of All Saints built in 1869-1870. Of course, this does not exhaust the list of historic monuments worth seeing in the region, it is merely a taster.
Dive into the lake Pile Divers are drawn to the crystal-clear Lake Pile, which affords excellent visibility under the water. The bottom is quite fascinating – at a depth of 16 m you can find a curious sunken forest, with tree branches providing a natural habitat for eels and schools of perch.
