Biebrza

arrowAngling
You may want to bring your fishing road along, as there are about 36 species of fish in the Biebrza River, including the Ukrainian lamprey eel, something not found in any other Polish river.

arrowKayak
Paddlers can pick from three kayak trails in the Biebrza National Park. The Biebrza River will surely satisfy anyone with an interest in kayaking and in unspoilt nature. Although the region is rather wild, there are still places where you can rent equipment.

arrowBike
Seven bike trails with a total length of 60 km provide scenic tours throughout the Biebrza National Park, plus some walking trails can be used too.

arrowHike
With more than 500 km of beautiful, mostly easy hiking trails in the Biebrza National Park you are certain to have a great outdoor experience.

arrowBird watching
As many as 276 species of birds have been identified in the Biebrza Valley, including a number of very rare ones. No wonder ‘twitchers’ flock there from all over the world, it’s a great place to set up your camera or get some good use from your binoculars.

arrowVisit a mysterious fortress inhabited by bats
The fortress in Osowiec is a huge system of fortifications built by the Russians towards the end of the 19th century, and was one of the first constructions in Tsarist empire fully made of concrete. Built to guard the western borders, it now serves as a home for the bats that spend their winters there. Some parts and the museum are open for visitors.

arrowSpot the moose
The Biebrza National Park is home to the country’s largest population of moose. When walking through the marshes in the morning or evening there is a very good chance of spying a fine specimen of this large animal, usually moving together in groups of three to five.

arrowRide a horse
If horse riding is your desire, you can pursue it here with a ride from the Biebrza National Park to Augustow Forest. The route covers 350 km, and leads through an uninhabited landscape. Although it is not an easy adventure, it is rewarding and gives you a close-up view of wild nature at its best. There is a much, much shorter horse trail within the Biebrza National Park, a ‘mere’ 13 km in length.

arrowFly in a hot-air balloon
All flights are organised by professionals and allow you to get a scenic bird’s eye view of the meanders of the Biebrza and experience an unusual adventure. Whatever else you leave at home, make sure it is not your camera as you will have a great chance of getting some breath-taking shots.

children ENFANTS
Older children will be interested in seeing the moose as well as various species of water birds. There are marked “educational trails” with special vantage towers to climb and footbridges to cross, with plenty of information about the history and wildlife of the region.
