Hike and cycle The Beskid Slaski provides many walking trails and hostels. Among the most popular places are: Mt Skrzyczne (1257 m), the waterfall of Biala Wiselka, Wielka Czantoria (955 m), Stozek (978 m), Klimczok (1117 m), and Barania Gora (1220 m) with its vantage tower and source of the biggest Polish river, the Vistula. Cycling is also a popular sport, but the trails are quite demanding and require one to be in good physical condition.
Ski and snowboard There is a wide range of skiing facilities. The best conditions can be found in Szczyrk with Mt Skrzyczne, the highest peak of Beskid Slaski, with its cable car, many ski lifts and more than 60 km of slopes that are also popular among snowboarders. Wisla and Ustron are the other major ski resorts of the area, while there are smaller ski lifts available in Istebna and Brenna.
Visit a lace manufacture The tradition of intricate lace-making dates back centuries in Koniakow. Artwork from the skilled hands of Koniakow women can be admired (and bought) in the Museum of Lace. Koniakow has more recently become famous for the manufacture of G-strings and other sexy underwear made of traditional lace.
Explore local folklore Despite flocks of visitors, the region maintains its folk tradition, with characteristic villages, cloth, ceremonies, songs and language. In Milowka and Istebna you can see the typical interior of a country cottage, including wooden furniture, old stoves and pottery (plus many interesting musical instruments in Istebna). What’s more, every year in July and August, there is the opportunity to sample the “Week of Beskid Culture” organised in Szczyrk, Wisla, Istebna and other towns and villages. This is one of the biggest and oldest of surviving folk events, attracting people from many countries.
Sightsee One of the greatest historical attractions of the area is Cieszyn. This old town with its mixed Czech-Polish history is picturesquely located on the hills surrounding the Olza River, where you can discover its beautiful old town and rich exhibitions displayed in the Museum of Slask Cieszynski. In Pszczyna, north of Bielsko-Biala, you can see a marvellous old palace.
Visit Malysz’s home town Wisla is the hometown of Adam Malysz, an internationally well-known ski jumper and Polish “hero”. You can visit also Habsburg Hunting Residence and the Palace of Polish President from 1930s while you are there.
